RESUMO

In recent decades, the connections between academic skills, such as reading, writing, and calculation, and motor skills/capacities have received increasing attention. Many studies provided evidence for motor difficulties in children and adolescents with dyslexia, prompting the need for a meta-analysis to combine these multiple findings. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis using PsycINFO, Pubmed, and SportDiscus as scientific databases. A total of 572 studies were analyzed following several stringent inclusion criteria, resulting in the inclusion of 23 peer-reviewed studies in the final analysis. Our results showed that children and adolescents with dyslexia displayed significant different performances in multiple motor tasks and these differences persisted also when the type of motor task was considered as moderator in the analysis. The present findings are in accordance with the literature that supports a close connection between reading disabilities and difficulties in motor skills/capacities.

RESUMO

This paper presents the results of numerical simulations and experimental tests carried out to assess the feasibility and suitability of graphite castellated tiles as beam-facing component in the diagnostic calorimeter of the negative ion source SPIDER (Source for Production of Ions of Deuterium Extracted from Radio frequency plasma). The results indicate that this concept could be a reliable, although less performing, alternative for the present design based on carbon fiber composite tiles, as it provides thermal measurements on the required spatial scale.

RESUMO

The edge of fusion experiments is a region where strong gradients develop, together with the presence of strong fluctuations due to turbulence. The thermal helium beam diagnostic developed for the RFX-mod experiment allows the measurements with a single diagnostic of both low frequency time evolution of the edge radial profiles of electron density and temperature (tens of hertz), and the high frequency fluctuations (hundreds of kHz). To maximize the collected light, the three HeI lines necessary to be measured for the evaluation of n(e) and T(e) are separated with a spectrograph, and multianode photomultipliers are used as light detectors. The paper describes the diagnostic setup, with the interface hardware with the machine and the optical layout, and the characterization of its performances.

RESUMO

A system of electrostatic sensors has been designed for the SPIDER (Source for the production of Ions of Deuterium Extracted from RF plasma) experiment, prototype RF source of the ITER NBI (neutral beam injection). A prototype of the sensor system was manufactured and tested at the BATMAN (BAvarian Test MAchine for Negative ions) facility, where the plasma environment is similar to that of SPIDER. Different aspects concerning the mechanical manufacturing and the signal conditioning are presented, among them the RF compensation adopted to reduce the RF effects which could lead to overestimated values of the electron temperature. The first commissioning tests provided ion saturation current values in the range assumed for the design, so the deduced plasma density estimate is consistent with the expected values.

RESUMO

Operation of the thermonuclear fusion experiment ITER requires additional heating via injection of neutral beams from accelerated negative ions. In the SPIDER test facility, under construction in Padova, the production of negative ions will be studied and optimised. STRIKE (Short-Time Retractable Instrumented Kalorimeter Experiment) is a diagnostic used to characterise the SPIDER beam during short pulse operation (several seconds) to verify if the beam meets the ITER requirements about the maximum allowed beam non-uniformity (below ±10%). The major components of STRIKE are 16 1D-CFC (Carbon-Carbon Fibre Composite) tiles, observed at the rear side by a thermal camera. This contribution gives an overview of some tests under high energy particle flux, aimed at verifying the thermo-mechanical behaviour of several CFC prototype tiles. The tests were performed in the GLADIS facility at IPP (Max-Plank-Institut für Plasmaphysik), Garching. Dedicated linear and nonlinear simulations were carried out to interpret the experiments and a comparison of the experimental data with the simulation results is presented. The results of some morphological and structural studies on the material after exposure to the GLADIS beam are also given.

RESUMO

RATIONALE, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Some objective indicators like symptoms, toxicity, performance status, rate of hospitalization or re-employment have been already employed in scientific literature as proxies of Quality of Life assessment, and, in spite of the intrinsic limitations of such a measurement, they represent a valuable source of information in all the situations where a formal assessment is impossible, due to budget, time or human resources constrains. We concentrate here on some models for the analysis of frequency of hospitalization data and we discuss an application to the Hearth Muscle Disease Study Group data. METHODS: A sample of 235 patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) prospectively treated at the Department of Cardiology (Trieste, Italy) have been observed during a period of 18 years, from 1978 to 1992 and data regarding hospitalization history were collected. The hospitalization process depends on the time since the last event, and usually is a function of a set of explanatory variables, such as the current state of the patient, treatments he has been receiving and the severity of disease. We propose here a semi-Markov representation of the hospitalization process, and we analyze data regarding DCM, implementing Exponential, Weibull, and Cox models; in Cox models we take care also of the stratification according to the duration or to the levels of the state factor. RESULTS: The probability of experiencing a second hospitalization within one year after the first one is estimated about 0.50, and within two years about 0.30. After this point the probability remains constant at a 0.10 level. The same pattern is observed for the second hospitalization, while things are getting worse after the third hospitalization, when the probability of not having a subsequent hospitalization is about 0.10 within one year. Betablockers have a strong influence in enlarging the time interval spent between an hospitalization and the other. CONCLUSIONS: The hospitalization process can be viewed only as a rough approximation of the good standing of the patient. However, for diseases like DCM can be reasonable, because of the relatively fast increment in the worsening conditions of the patients and the consequently high chances of observing new hospitalizations up to the absorbing state (the death). Moreover a very detailed modeling of the process leads to extract as much information as possible from the data.
